Sunday, October 21st, 2007Dairy Queen
Thursday, October 11th, 2007I had 45 minutes yesterday between two dr appts and I decided I would stop somewhere for a little snack. For several months now, I’ve been thinking fondly of a chocolate shake I had from Dairy Queen back in May. (Yes, my food memory is this acute.) I drove right on by Dairy Queen though, musing to myself about how I am now the very opposite of such royalty. Last week I discovered that the baby gets an upset stomach every time I eat dairy products. I guess it’s no wonder we’ve been through two bottles of Mylicon in his short little life. Now that I’m off dairy, he doesn’t need the Mylicon at all. Gas is down, sleep is up, all is well, right? Not totally. Dairy is everywhere! I mean, they named a whole restaurant after it. No milk, obviously, no ice cream, yogurt, sour cream, cheese (which by the way means pizza, lasagne, quesadillas, cheeseburgers, cheese dip, ceasar dressing, alfredo sauce, cream cheese or anything else good), no pudding, did I mention no ice cream???, no milk shakes, no low-fat-made-out-of-frozen-yogurt-but-with-chocolate-cookies-and-candies shakes, no fun! Imagine the dairy section of the grocery store and all the goodness that lies within…are you imagining it? THAT is what I have cut from my diet. So rather than stopping at Dairy Queen, which kind of disqualifies itself by the name, I went to Sonic. I got a strawberry limeade. It was ok. On the first drag I sucked a strawberry up through the straw and didn’t know what it was, so that was a little freaky. That doesn’t happen with a milk shake.
