About me
It seems that anyone looking at this site would already know me, so I’m not sure where to start. I was born at a young age…
Here’s what I’m into:
My faith. Jesus is not someone reserved for Sunday mornings and special occasions. I need him every moment of my day. I spent three years in seminary getting a Masters of Divinity because of my interest in the Bible, theology and ministry. It was only after my head was full that my heart began to process my need for the love, power, and joy of Christ every single moment of my day. I learned this through experience, namely the experience of having our first son who spent the first four and a half months in the hospital and has multiple medical issues. When faced with crisis, the faith I already knew and believed sank even deeper into my soul. I learned much about Jesus, but most of what I learned can be summed up with “He’s real.”
My family. I have three boys. With my husband and our male dog Tucker “Boo” that means I’m outnumbered 5 to 1. I like to think that makes me the queen bee, but I know it just means I am destined to spend half our family budget on groceries, laundry detergent and air freshener. I love my boys and am so glad to have them all. I never seem to make it around to combing their hair, so I can only imagine what a little girl would look like if she were mine. Additionally, I have a loving mom, dad and sister to whom I am forever grateful for encouragement and support. Both of my grandfathers are still living. One of them is 90, so if genetics has anything to say about it, looks like I’ll be around for a while. My husband’s family is also marvelous. My mother-in-law is the kidney donor for my oldest son’s transplant, so obviously she has as special place in our hearts. My husband’s father, grandparents, sister and family, and brother are also very special to me. We have 3 very fun nephews which means that when we all get together, it is very loud. And yes, that means 6 grandsons for my in-laws and no granddaughters.
My friends. I have come to understand the importance of community through the struggles of life. My plate is always full and I am horribly disorganized, so I really just can’t function on my own. Since I can’t afford to pay an assistant, I have to burden my friends to help me with my life. They are very gracious to do this. I can’t even begin to recount the many things that have been done for me over the past eight years. Just know it’s a lot and I’m really grateful. In all this, I think I’ve learned how to more effectively help others in crisis and I’ve made some amazing friends. They say they are blessed to help us, so I have to believe them. Apparently this whole community thing is God’s design for us to live in. Hmmm, imagine that.
My fun. Sorry about the alliteration. I know it’s grade A cheddar. The things I enjoy doing are really varied. I like to do public speaking, particularly when it comes to teaching the Bible. I’ve taught at church, for retreats and as an adjunct professor. When I get the opportunity to teach, I really feel like I’m doing something I was made for. I also like to write. I’m not published, but I have a few things I work on occasionally and maybe someday that will happen. If I can figure out how to do it, I’ll post my “This I Believe” essay on here or at least a link to it. I like to watch UK basketball. Some (my husband) might say I get a little obsessive when it comes to March Madness, but let’s be glad that just lasts for a few weeks. I like baseball. I was raised in a ball park and my first job was as an umpire, so I was bred for the sport, even if simply as a spectator. I like math. Yes, I said I like math. Those mensa puzzles in the in flight magazines are the best. I like to laugh. Who doesn’t though? Movies that make me laugh would likely involve the Coen brothers, Will Ferrell, or Parker Posey. You get the picture. And if you haven’t realized it by now, I’m a little long-winded. It’s worse in person.
